Maintaining a Healthy Glow After the Summer Months

During the summer, it’s easy to get a nice fresh-off-a-vacation look. I mean, you most likely did just get back from a vacation! Your tan is glowing, your face is relaxed, and your hair is all salty with beachy waves. Basically, you are your best self! But, under all that bronzed skin is the truth: increased sun exposure is seeping through to the top layer of your skin and getting ready to wrinkle you up like a raisin. Deny it all you want, but the footprints have been laid, it’s only a matter of time.

There are however, solutions that can be put into place so that you can implement to maintain your healthy glow working to prevent the side effects of prolonged sun exposure. The first and most basic way to treat the signs of aged skin is hydration. By keeping your skin hydrated—with moisturizer and other facial treatments—you are nourishing your body in the healthiest and most natural way possible.

Another super simple tip to integrate into your daily routine, is washing your face. The weather is sweltering hot out there, it’s important to clean away that dirt and sweat that has been accumulating all day. Maintaining a glowing complexion is hard work, so break out the exfoliant and start scrubbing.

Between cleansers, toners, and moisturizers, your skin is starting to look fabulous. But it’s not just the smooth, radiant skin tone that you’re after… it’s the sun-kissed glow you want to maintain. Well, here’s a trick you’ve probably never thought of: eat more beta-carotene-rich foods. Anything from sweet potato and carrots to kale and spinach (well, all the greens really) will help sustain that glow way past the summer months. You might want to slather yourself in a bit of baby oil, that helps too.

There are a number of products out there that you can invest in (financially and time-wise), but the truth of the matter is that unless you’re using a medical-grade dermatologist-approved skincare line, the benefits won’t be as bountiful. It’s important to use a product line that your aesthetician or dermatologist recommends, because they know skin, they know the skincare line, and they know how to create the right regimen for your skin type. At Elna Esthetics, we offer chemical peels – one mild and one slightly stronger. The Jensen peel gets rid of old residue and leaves you with a brighter, glowing face. Combine it with a facial and you’ll fresh as a baby’s bottom!

So we’re back to school and that means summer is over. But, that doesn’t mean that your perfect tan needs to fade. Yet another reason why taking care of your skin is well worth the investment. J-Lo glow anyone?
