Botox to treat excessive sweating

Do you experience excessive sweating of the armpits, face, palms or other parts of the body? You may be suffering from hyperhidrosis, an embarrassing condition that can affect your self-confidence.
Botulinum toxin (Botox) treatment is an effective, long-lasting solution that can improve your quality of life! In our article, find out more about Botox injections to treat hyperhidrosis.

What is hyperhidrosis?

Hyperhidrosis is a disorder affecting both men and women, characterized by excessive sweating, often beyond what is necessary to regulate body temperature. Sweating may be accompanied by redness and strong odours.

Causes may be genetic, or linked to medications, hormonal imbalances or underlying medical conditions such as obesity, diabetes or cancer.

How does Botox help with excessive sweating?

Hyperhidrosis cannot be cured, but several treatments and medications are available. Botulinum toxin has been shown to be effective over the long term. When Botox is injected into targeted areas, it works by temporarily blocking the nerve signals that stimulate the sweat glands responsible for excessive sweating. As a result, sweat production is significantly reduced, offering relief to hyperhidrosis sufferers.

What areas can be treated?

Hyperhidrosis can affect any part of the body, but is often concentrated in certain areas. The most common, and also the most embarrassing, are the armpits, palms and soles.

The face is also frequently consulted, to treat perspiration on the forehead, temples, upper lip, nose or nape of the neck. Botox injection is an effective treatment for limiting sweating in all these areas.

How long does it take to see results?

Results are visible within 3 to 4 days of treatment and last 6 to 9 months, depending on the patient, after which injections can be repeated to maintain results.

How does a consultation work?

For your first consultation, it is essential to consult a medical professional such as a qualified aesthetic doctor. The consultation will determine whether this treatment is appropriate for you, assess the areas to be treated, establish a cost and answer any questions you may have.

On the day of treatment, the procedure is quick and takes about 30 minutes. It is not painful, but you may feel a tingling sensation around the injections. An anaesthetic cream may be recommended. At the end of the treatment, the doctor will give you post-treatment advice.
