Wrinkles and Fine Lines

Effective Skin Treatments that Make a Difference

We Can’t Stop The Clock, But We Can Stop The Signs Of Time…

Wrinkles are a natural part of aging that, sooner or later, we all need to face. Although they may be associated with wisdom and maturity, most people would rather not have them. Wrinkles associated with age are located on the face, neck, and backs of the hands. These parts of the body are also most exposed to the sun, and, therefore, possible sun damage.

With the progression of science and the development of new and innovative ways to reduce the signs of aging, many are striving to restore their youthful looking skin to look as good as they feel on the inside.

Causes Of Wrinkles On Face

Wrinkles are divided into two main categories: fine surface lines (most often caused by sun exposure) and deep furrows (associated with muscle contractions). Many factors can contribute to the onset of the skin’s wrinkling process. Here are some known causes of wrinkles:

Aging Skin

Wrinkles are most often associated with aging skin. As skin ages, cells divide at a slower pace and the dermis (the inner layer of the skin) begins to thin, thus causing a reduction in skin elasticity. Concurrently, aging skin becomes increasingly deprived of its natural moisture and oil, which makes it slower to heal. As a result, aging skin inevitably becomes wrinkled.

Genetics

A person’s skin type and heredity can determine the probability and the time at which wrinkles will be developed. For example, light colored skin is more vulnerable and prone to skin damage.

Sun Exposure

Most of the visible signs of aging are caused by sun exposure. UV rays from the sun are the number one cause of wrinkles and other signs of aging such as, brown spots, freckles, uneven pigmentation, and the loss of skin firmness and elasticity.

Facial Muscle Contractions

Deep furrows are often associated with facial muscle contractions. Facial expressions such as frowning, squinting or even smiling, will make these wrinkles more noticeable.

Lifestyle Circumstances

Poor diet, dehydration, alcohol abuse, and smoking are all factors that accelerate the skin’s aging process, therefore causing more wrinkles at a faster rate.

Common Types Of Wrinkles

Even wrinkles have their own name—after all, not all facial wrinkles are the same!

Here is a list of your most common type of wrinkles:

Crow’s Feet: These are fine lines that radiate outward on the side of the eye.

Forehead Wrinkles: As their name indicates, these are long, stubborn lines on the forehead, above the eyebrows.

Frown Lines: Lines between the eyes and eyebrows.

Nasolabial Folds: Also known as smile or laugh lines, these are the folds that run down from each side of the nose to the corners of the mouth.

Marionette Lines: Folds that run the corners of the mouth down to the chin.

Tear Troughs: Folds extending from the inner corner of the eye, sometimes causing the appearance of eye bags or dark shadows under the eye.

Bunny Lines: Distinctive lines that appear at the side and upper part of the nose.

Mental Crease: One or several creases that rest between the lower lip and the chin.

How Can I Prevent Wrinkles?

How Can I Prevent Wrinkles?

It is impossible to prevent getting facial wrinkles. Wrinkles are a natural part of aging. There are however ways to delay and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Opting for a healthy diet, avoiding excess sun exposure, and applying sunscreen (even in the winter) are all great habits to adopt. Preventative skin rejuvenation treatments are also a good way to delay the signs of aging.
